Ellis "butch" cleaver
Butch is a U.S. Navy Veteran.
Ellis was in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965 and is one of our Board Members.
He went to boot camp in San Diego and spent six months at Pearl Harbor. The rest of his service was on the aircraft carrier CVS 33 making two West Pac cruises. His ship picked up two space capsules in the early 1960's and spent 30 days cruising around the Gulf of Tonkin. The Gulf of Tonkin incident lead to the escalation of the War in Vietnam.
He is one of our most highly skilled, metal fabrication, veteran volunteers. He is in charge of our Go Kart fund-raising project. Our fund-raising goal is $1,000.
Bob is a Retired U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran.
Bob retired from the U.S. Navy in 1987 after 25 years as a Senior Chief from 1962 to 1987. The U.S. Navy took him around the world and while aboard the USS Oklahoma City off the coast of Vietnam from 1963 to 1965.
He is one of our Board Members and is a master mechanic with years of experience. He has built several 1947 to 1954 Chevrolet pickups and is supervising our 1953 3100 & 3600 Chevrolet pickup builds.
These builds will take about two years and we will need to raise $75,000 to complete this project. The funds will be used to purchase parts for each truck. The labor will be provided by our volunteers and by engaging our program veterans needing help in coping with their service connected disabilities (PTSD).
Ernie is a U.S. Army Veteran.
Ernie is one our long time Board Members and has been in charge of the Wildwood Days Car Cruise fund-raiser in Rio Dell, California. This year the car cruise was renamed The Ernie Cannady Cruise.
We made this decision because Ernie has been fighting cancer for the past year. Over the course of his illness he has had two separate major surgeries - one to remove a tumor from his lung and the other from his brain.
He has been a master fund-raising organizer for Love Your Vets but his personal financial burden has been huge. We are working to raise $3,000 for Ernie and his family so they can attend his 50th high school reunion in Oklahoma.More

The Fortuna Redwood AutoXpo Car Show and Love Your Vets Team Up To Help Veterans and Local Youth.
The 26th annual car show, held on July 22, 23 & 24, is a fund-raiser for both AutoXpo and Love Your Vets. Many of the Love Your Vets volunteer veterans are members of the AutoXpo Committee. The Fortuna Redwood AutoXpo Car Show raises funds through car show participant registration fees. Love Your Vets raises funds for their programs through designing, screen printing and selling the official car show shirts for the event. They also publish the official 32 page show program.
The proceeds from AutoXpo participant fees are used to provide scholarships for deserving high school graduates that are going into the automotive field. Love Your Vets buys equipment for the Fortuna High School Automotive Program. This equipment benefits the students of veteran families.
